We are having a PEACE Vigil once a month, on the first Sunday of every month.

It is for one hour, from 12 noon until 1 pm.

This will be a vigil FOR PEACE.  It will not be a vigil or a protest against anything.  It will not be anti-war, or anti-military, or anti-our president, or anti-any country, or anti-any people, or anti-any belief system.

It will simply be FOR PEACE.

We will stand silently on the church lawn at the curb of Ten Mile Road , holding signs for passersby to see..  There will be no shouting or chanting of slogans.  There will be no waving of hands or signs or any interference with traffic.

Only signs that say PEACE or PRAY FOR PEACE will be acceptable.

This is a vigil to be done in a positive way, so only PEACE will be focused on.  We will not focus on anything negative, which is why we will not express anti-anything.

We will pray together for PEACE.

If anyone stops and asks us what we stand for, we will reply that we are for PEACE.  We will not discuss any personal political views, or make comments on any war, people, politicians, events, or conditions.  We are simply FOR PEACE.  They may join us if they wish to abide by our way of being, as outlined here.

Prayer and positive thoughts have an effect.  We are a small group, even if everyone in our church joins us.  But our being FOR PEACE may influence others, who may influence others, who may influence others………

Our PEACE Vigil will coincide with our monthly communion service.  As we take communion, we affirm our connection with Jesus, and all he taught and stood for.  PEACE is a very important part of his message to us.  Let us honor his teaching of love for ALL of our neighbors by expressing our desire for PEACE in the world.

Please join this VIGIL FOR PEACE.   You may bring your own sign, keeping to the guidelines stated above.  But if you don’t have a sign, simply stand with us.

As the numbers grow, people will be bringing their own signs to the vigil, so I want to remind everyone that the signs should say only "Peace" or "Pray for Peace".  As this is being done in a totally positive manner, I do not want to draw attention to any divisions between people, whether to groups we do not belong to, would not belong to, or even those we DO belong to.  A positive peace ministry is all inclusive and does not point out the divisions between "them" and "us", even though we are very happy to be "us".  So please do not put any designs or symbols on the signs that represent any particular group.  Something simple like a heart or a peace dove or flowers are fairly universal symbols and so leave no one out.  But even wonderful symbols that we love, such as the cross or the American flag or the Methodist cross & flame, represent only some people, not all people.  So please do not use such symbols on the signs.  I hope that you will be understanding of this request.

If you can’t make it every time, then be there some of the times.  And when you can’t be there in person, please join us in prayer from wherever you are.

One hour, once a month.  Is PEACE worth it to you?

 and we also did this...

September 21, 2008 was the United Nations International Day of Peace.  In support of this event, and as an outreach in one of our church's core values, we hosted a Special Peace Vigil at 12:00 noon on Sept. 21.  This was exactly like our regularly scheduled Peace Vigil held the 1st Sunday of each month.  It lasted 1 hour.  We  posted the event on the International Day of Peace website at http://www.internationaldayofpeace.org/.

Please join us the first Sunday of every month as we stand for Peace.  Invite a friend.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.
